Understanding Adobe Stock and AI Image Royalties
Adobe Stock is a marketplace where creatives can license stock photos, vectors, and illustrations. It’s a place where people buy visual content for their projects. When you upload an AI image to Adobe Stock, you can earn royalties each time someone licenses your work.
There are different types of licenses, such as standard and extended. The type of license affects the royalty rate you receive. How much can you expect to make from your AI masterpieces?
The Royalty Rates for AI Images
The royalty rates on Adobe Stock vary based on the subscriber’s plan. You might see rates like $0.33, $0.66, or $0.99 per image. Most commonly, you’ll earn around $0.66 or $0.92 per download.
Extended licenses are rarer but pay out much more. For instance, I sold a Christmas image with an extended license for $26.40! This was a nice surprise and significantly boosted my earnings for that week. It’s not something that happens every day, but it’s a great example of the potential.
My Uploading Process and Image Statistics
So, how many images did I upload? And how many were actually accepted? Let’s take a look at my numbers.
Total Images Uploaded and Approved
I’ve uploaded and had approved 14,786 images. These include both AI-generated images and some vectors. I also categorized some of my images as illustrations, especially the cartoony ones.
Rejection Rate Analysis
Not every image gets approved. I had 2,437 rejected images. Considering that I’ve uploaded nearly 15,000, I think a rejection rate is reasonable. It’s part of the process.
Monthly Income Breakdown: A Month-by-Month Analysis
Now, let’s get to the good stuff – the money! Here’s a breakdown of my monthly income since I started selling AI images on Adobe Stock.
June
June was my first month with any sales. I earned a small amount. One of the images that sold was made with Ideogram, and I removed the background. Other sales included images created with Copilot, like silhouettes. I converted those silhouettes into vectors, which was a straightforward process.
July
In July, my income increased to $9.23 from 12 downloads. I continued selling Copilot-generated images and yoga poses. I also sold an image of chocolate made in Ideogram as a PNG file.
Initially, I thought PNG files would be more desirable. My reasoning was that people could use them instantly without extra editing. However, creating PNGs took too much time, and I didn’t see a significant return. So, I decided to focus on other formats instead.
August
August saw a jump to $18.66. I sold more vectors, yoga poses (generating $3.64), and even some Christmas-themed images. I also sold a lightning PNG image.
September
September’s income rose to $28.24 from 45 downloads. That’s a $10 increase! One interesting thing happened this month. I created an image, uploaded it to Adobe Stock, got it approved, and it sold the same day! It was a quick turnaround.
October
October was a turning point, with my earnings reaching $120. The surge in income was largely due to Christmas-themed images starting to sell well.
November
November was my best month yet, bringing in $221 from 281 downloads! Christmas images were a hit. The image that sold for $26.40 with an extended license also sold several more times, earning a total of $28.
Overall Earnings and Download Statistics
Here’s the overall picture of my earnings and downloads.
Total Downloads
I’ve had a total of 559 downloads.
Total Earnings
My total income earned so far is $416.20.
Is It Worth It? A Personal Perspective
So, is selling AI images on Adobe Stock worth it? Let’s weigh the pros and cons.
Weighing the Pros and Cons
Earning $416.20 from 559 downloads is a decent return. Whether it’s “worth it” depends on your individual goals. If you’re looking for a significant income stream, it might not be enough. But if you enjoy creating AI art and want to make some extra money, it’s definitely worth considering.
The time you spend creating and uploading images is a factor too. Do you enjoy the creative process, or does it feel like a chore? Your answer to that question will significantly influence whether this is a worthwhile endeavor. There are other avenues too; have you considered using a photo tagging app to help boost your Adobe Stock images?
Comparison to Others
I’ve heard stories from other creators with varying experiences. Some people claim to make very little, even with thousands of images. For example, one person said they made around $100 in a month with 2,000 images. That seems hard to believe. I didn’t make that little with my image count.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, deciding whether selling AI images on Adobe Stock is worth it is up to you. Consider your goals, the time you’re willing to invest, and your passion for creating AI art.
